ABOUT THE COURSE

Welcome to this T Level Finance course, where you will develop team and professional skills to prepare you for employment, alongside acquiring essential knowledge for a successful career in Finance.

Finance presents an exciting and dynamic career path - every organisation requires individuals who comprehend the numbers. If you have an aptitude for mathematics, enjoy problem-solving, and possess an eye for detail, accounting could be an excellent career choice for you.

You’ll spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% on an industry placement with an employer (equivalent to 45 days) to give you the skills and knowledge companies look for. Your industry placement gives you the chance to learn what a real career is like while you continue your studies. When and how you complete it depends on the T Level, school or college, and employer.

To achieve the T Level, you will need to successfully demonstrate your achievement of each of the components.

WHAT WILL I STUDY 

You will study the following:

The Technical Qualification content has been designed from the Outline Content created by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (the Institute) and the Legal, Finance and Accounting T Level panel. We have used the Outline Content to create the Technical Qualification specification and assessment, which has been validated by our own panel of employers and education providers to ensure it is appropriate for the progression routes identified in the above section. Students will learn about the following topics:

● The business environment

● Careers within the finance and accounting professions

● Regulation

● Professionalism and ethics/equality, diversity and inclusion

● Security and risk

● Professional services

● Fundamentals of law

● Technology

● Data driven innovation/analytics and design thinking

● Research skills

● Project/change management and administration

● The financial services sector (finance pathway content)

● Professionalism and ethics (finance pathway content).

How will you learn?

In the classroom, you will engage in independent or group work to solve financial problems. You will research and devise innovative solutions to finance issues, presenting your findings to the group. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to apply your skills during the work placement.

WHAT WILL I NEED

Students are most likely to succeed if they have:

● Five GCSEs/international GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, Maths and Science, and/or

● Vocational Tech Award qualification(s) at Level 2 at Pass and above in a relevant subject, e.g. BTEC Tech Award in Business.      Students may demonstrate the ability to succeed in various ways. For example, they may have relevant work experience or specific aptitude shown through diagnostic tests or non-educational experience.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED

Exam Board: Pearson

This is a two-year course.

In the first year, you will complete two external exams in the core component and an employer-set project.

What is the Core Component assessment made up of? Exam Paper 1 – 2 ½ hours Exam Paper 2 – 2 ½ hours Employer Set Project – Pearson will create this with the help of our employer experts. It will be made up of 6 tasks. The tasks will be completed over a few weeks, but before you start you’ll have some time to do some research and prepare. You will work in exam conditions, sometimes you’ll be able to use the internet, and you won’t be able to do any of the work at home or ask your friends for help. 

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER 

T Levels are designed for university or apprenticeship pathways and prepare students for highly skilled roles in accounting and payroll.

T Levels are eligible for UCAS tariff points equivalent to A Levels and most universities recognise T Levels as equal in merit.
